Some Methods To Increase Links To Your Sites
As a website owner, your constant aim should be to increase traffic to your site, as this will in the long term lead to financial success. One of the best ways to increase traffic is to increase the number of links between your site and other highly rated sites. Google and other major search engines consider the number of incoming links to your website as an important factor in determining ranking. As you increase the number of links this should help you rank higher in the search engines. Google has introduced a ten point scale called PageRank (ten is the highest rank) to indicate the quantity and quality of incoming links. Links are not treated equally, as links from popular information hubs will help your site rank higher than those from low traffic sites. Here are some methods of getting more good quality links. 1. Submit Your Site to Key Directories. A link from a directory will help your ranking, as well as potentially getting you traffic. You can submit your site manually, or use an automated service. In either case, be careful not to submit to hundrdeds of directories in the one day, as this would be considered spamming by Google and your site could be penalised. 2. Try Submitting Your site to Industry Sites and Specialized Directories. You may find some directories focused on particular industries, such as finance or education. Perhaps you belong to different trade associations that feature member sites. If so, ask them for a link. Even if you have to pay something for a link, it may help boost your PageRank. 3. Ask For Reciprocal Links. Find complementary websites and request a reciprocal link to your site (especially to your free service, if you offer one). Develop an out-of-the way page where you put links to other sites -- so you don't send people out the back door as fast as you bring them in the front door. Your best results will be from sites that get a similar amount of traffic to your site. High-traffic site webmasters are too busy to answer your requests for a link and don't have anything to gain. Look for smaller sites that may have linking pages. 4. Start Writing Some Articles for Others to Use on their Sites. You can hugely increase your visibility when you write articles in your area of expertise, and distribute them to editors as free content for their e-mail newsletters or their websites. Always insist that a link to your website and a one-line description of what you offer be included with the article. This "viral" approach can produce hundreds of links to your site over time. 5. Start a Business Blog. This is an excellent way to add fresh content to your site, provided you have the blog hosted on your own domain. By giving first class content, you will please the search engines, but also people are more likely to link to the blog, increasing Page Rank further. Obviously there are many more ways to increase links, but I hope you find this post useful in getting you thinking of options.
